Abstract
Land is the base of all human activities, one of the effective inputs in production systems and one of the factors to achieve sustainable development The ever-increasing socio-economic changes in human societies and the unconventional use of resources have intensified the unstable conditions of the land. Measuring land use developments is associated with issues such as land use and land cover system (LULC) and monitoring patterns. The LULC patterns, by providing monitoring and understanding the development process of the exploitation system through the use of remote sensing techniques, facilitates the possibility of policy modification and change, optimal management and foresight of environmental resources. The aim of the present research is to monitor the evolution of the LULC system in the Koohpayeh-Segzi sub-basin using satellite images in the period of 2000-2023 and updating the spatial information. The results of the evaluation of LULC maps using the Decision Tree Algorithm show an area increase for 97% of built-up lands, 173% of pasture lands, 230% of water arenas, 72% of agricultural lands and a decrease of more than 14% of barren lands. The results also show that 913 hectares of barren lands, 244 hectares of pastures, 44 hectares of agricultural lands and 0.155 hectares of water arenas have been changed to built-up lands. The sustainability of environmental resources, especially reducing the process of LULC change as well as stabilization of the exploitation system, requires optimal management of resources by applying land protection models and increasing the participation and empowerment of local rural communities.
