Natural hazards, including floods, cause significant financial and human losses every year. Therefore, identifying flood-prone areas in cities is of great importance. The urban development of Zahedan in recent decades has had a considerable impact on increasing surface runoff and the risk of urban flooding. The analysis of four stages of urban development using the SCS-CN model indicates a reduction in water retention capacity from 35.81 mm to 5.08 mm and an increase in runoff percentage from 24.21% to 83.22%. Additionally, the flood peak discharge in the hydrograph has risen from 25.44 cubic meters per second in the first development stage to 99.85 cubic meters per second in the fourth stage, demonstrating the increased intensity of water flow during flood events. The main factors contributing to this trend include intense short-term precipitation, unplanned urban development, reduced soil permeability, and encroachment on floodplain areas. Given these findings, implementing sustainable urban management policies, developing efficient drainage systems, and utilizing permeable materials are essential measures to mitigate urban flood risks.

With the rapid growth of urbanization and the increasing number of private vehicles, the provision of parking has become a major challenge in metropolitan areas. As a key component of the urban transportation system, parking plays a crucial role in reducing on-street parking, improving traffic flow, and enhancing citizens’ quality of life. The lack of adequate parking provision in urban areas—particularly in dense urban fabrics—leads to a range of social, economic, environmental, and physical consequences, including reduced safety, increased disorder and inconvenience, limited pedestrian and cycling accessibility, and a decline in the visual quality of the urban environment. Moreover, insufficient parking provision in buildings can contribute to uneven physical development across urban areas. This study was conducted in the Qom metropolitan area and adopts a quantitative research approach. Data on building violations related to parking deficiencies were collected for the period 2012–2024 and analyzed using ArcGIS software. Spatial analysis techniques, including Kernel Density Estimation and Moran’s I spatial autocorrelation index, were applied to examine the spatial patterns of violations. The findings indicate that Districts 3, 5, and 6 of Qom exhibit the highest levels of parking deficiency violations. Furthermore, the overlay analysis of violation data with population density and street width reveals that violation hotspots are primarily concentrated in narrow streets and densely built areas, particularly in District 6. This pattern reflects significant physical pressure and the emergence of uneven urban development. Accordingly, urban management authorities should implement stricter monitoring and enforcement measures to prevent parking deficiency violations in properties located along narrow streets and within dense urban fabrics. Additionally, revenues and penalties collected from such violations can be allocated to the development of public parking facilities and public spaces, such as neighborhood parks, to mitigate the adverse social, economic, and environmental impacts associated with this issue.

In recent years, urban planning and design knowledge has increasingly sought methods to reduce earthquake-induced damages in cities, the primary habitats of human life. Accordingly, this study aims to assess the seismic vulnerability of Ilam city. The research is applied in purpose and descriptive–analytical in nature. Primary data were collected from existing documents and maps obtained from relevant organizations. For data analysis, the Fuzzy DEMATEL model and Geographic Information System (GIS) were employed. To determine the seismic vulnerability of Ilam city, a set of indicators was considered, including population density, land use, building density, street network, distance from green spaces, distance from faults, building age, number of floors, building quality, construction materials, geology, and slope. The results revealed that 19.04% of the total area of Ilam city falls within high and very high vulnerability zones. These areas are mostly concentrated in the central parts of the city, where the urban fabric and construction materials used make them less resistant to seismic hazards.

Urbanization is one of the basic challenges that the world society is facing in the 21st century. Nowadays, the irregular growth pattern of cities and irregular urban development have destructive effects on cities and their surrounding environment. In the meantime, the city of Bonab is not an exception to this rule. In this descriptive-analytical research with applied purpose, using the fuzzy method and remote sensing, the physical expansion and growth of Bonab city has been evaluated. In order to analyze the effective factors in the pattern of development and physical growth of the studied area, first, 10 related and main criteria including: slope, direction of slope, height, type of vegetation, distance from faults, distance from waterways, distance from communication network, distance from rivers, distance from rural settlements and distance from susceptible lands were referenced using the geographic information system were placed in the numerical range of zero to one. Then, the specified layers were fuzzy and membered by different functions, and lastly, the final map was prepared using fuzzy criteria and fuzzy gamma. In relation to the modified fuzzy gamma model, values of 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 have been used to identify potential areas for the physical expansion of Bonab city. The analysis and evaluation of the accuracy of the model was done based on gamma layers and a number of raster layers, as a result the gamma 0.9 was introduced as the final layer of land suitability for the future expansion. Based on the final map obtained, it can be said that the favorable areas for the future expansion of Bonab city are mostly located in the north and northwest areas.

A sidewalk is a part of the urban space where pedestrian movement is prioritized and vehicle movement is eliminated in all or part of it. In addition to providing access, the sidewalk creates a lively, safe and comfortable space for the presence of different social groups, social interactions and optional activities. The aim of the current research is to present a model of sidewalk construction in Khorramabad city with a theoretical-applied approach based on modeling and software studies. To achieve the objectives of the research, 4 categories of indicators are used through the minimum spanning tree algorithm in the standard Matlab 2016 software environment. For the spatial analysis of the indicators, the network analysis process has been used in the ArcGIS software environment. The results showed that 29.43% of the area of Khorramabad is in a completely suitable condition for the construction of sidewalk. Spatial analysis of Khorramabad city shows that five optimal routes can be achieved for the development of sidewalks in the city. These routes are in accordance with the theoretical models obtained from the research, including: socio-economic, physical-spatial, traffic and access criteria. The best routes for pedestrian construction are: 22 Bahman Square, Velayat Boulevard, 60 Meter Boulevard, and Sharq Boulevard towards Koi Enghelab.

Forest fires, whether of human or natural origin, are one of the most important challenges in recent years as a crisis. The aim of this study is to prepare a fire potential map using the geographic information system in the forests of rural areas of Asalem city in order to manage these areas for the executive departments. In this paper, zoning of fire hazard was investigated by spatial analysis method and using fuzzy hierarchical process and GIS. Using digital-elevation model, slope, geographical directions, altitude maps were prepared and then type of vegetation, roads, rural settlements and farmlands were mapped. In order to rank and weighting the effective criteria in the occurrence of fire through the method of fuzzy AHP, first 30 questionnaires were distributed among fire experts in the study areas. And they were weighed in the AHP fuzzy. Then the weighted layers were evaluated according to the Raster calculator order in GIS and using fuzzy membership functions. Forest fire risk zone mapping were classified into five classes of areas with very high potential to very low potential. From the total of the study area, the area of very high fire risk is equal to 7170 hectares and the area of very low fire risk is 6908 hectares. The results showed that after the fieldwork, the areas with fire history in previous years were completely matched with the final potential map. 48% of the fires occurred were in areas with high and very high potential.

At the present, Payam-e-Noor University (PNU) has more than 500 educational centers and units around the country. The need for rational management of this university requires that new management technologies be used at different levels. The relatively large number of centers, students and users of educational services at Payam-e-Noor University has created a huge amount of data and information. It seems that managing and organizing this amount of data is not in the power of a particular person or persons, even if they are very strong managers. In most cases, managers and officials do not have accurate statistics and information on the various situations of the centers under their management. This can lead to insufficient knowledge and sometimes incorrect decisions in university administration. On the other hand, sometimes the amount of information and data is so large that many people feel lost in the seemingly unrelated mass of information. Creating a comprehensive database containing all the data, statistics, figures and various information related to the centers and units can help manage and organize them. The present study is based on the data of Golestan Comprehensive System of Payam-e-Noor University from 2014 to 2017. In this study, before testing any hypothesis or examining the relationships between variables, the emphasis is on creating a comprehensive database for Payam-e-Noor University that can be used in the environment of geographic information systems. Based on this database and according to different research or administrative-executive needs, various analyzes of this database can be performed. The results of this study are in the form of a comprehensive database in the environment of geographic information systems, which as a powerful tool can provide managers with appropriate and useful solutions. Managers can make the right and effective decisions based on it. Therefore, using the results of this research can lead to better management at the level of central organization, provinces and centers and units of the PNU.

The aim of the present study is to analyze the spatial distribution and to show the spatial patterns of advanced producer services (APS) in Ardabil; one of the middle-sized cities in Iran. Sample of the study comprises 2100 activity units in four groups of advanced services, including banking and financial services, healthcare and remedial, real estate, and insurance services. Documentary and field methods are applied for collecting and processing the data. Spatial statistical techniques such as Kernel Density, Average Nearest Neighbor, the local Moran statistics, Cluster and Outlier spatial analysis, Hot Spots and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) methods have been used in GIS environment for data analysis, density estimation, distribution pattern analysis and conceptualization of spatial relationships. The results show that, insurance and real estate consulting services are enjoying the highest levels of coverage around the city. The highest densities of ASPs belong to center and south parts of the city. The spatial pattern of the advanced services is spread in type. Spatial pattern and spatial distribution of insurance services and real estate consulting are dispersed around the city, but the spatial pattern of banking, health and remedial services are clustered. The gravity or central point of advanced services locates at the geographical center of the city and the movement path of the advanced services follows a north-south route. There is a significant relationship between population density and some kinds of advanced services. Finally, some recommendations are presented based on the findings of the study.

During the last couple of decades, some factors such as population growth, need for higher levels of employment, limitations of agriculture sector and search for new activities have necessitated establishing and expanding industrial activities in Iran. An industrial estate, as one of the most suitable ways of optimal application of geographic space, is a place for the concentration of productive and industrial units. Good decisions about expanding and managing these estates require reliable spatial data. Therefore, to have a proper management and to obtain the organizational objectives of industrial estates in Iran, there is a need to create reliable databases containing spatial data. Implementation of modern information systems such as GIS to storing, analyzing, displaying and updating spatial data related to industrial estates of Iran is an advantage and any delay to apply this technology can lead to increase the executive and managerial costs. Kermanshah is one of 31 provinces of Iran located in west of the country and does have several industrial estates. It seems that establishing an information system based on GIS is a necessity for each. This paper, first introduces the industrial estate of Faraman in Kermanshah city which contains 160 productive and industrial units. Then how a geographic information system is designed and applied to this estate is discussed in details. The methodology of this study comprises: 1- collecting all required spatial data, 2- conducting focus groups include managers and knowledgeable individuals, 3- digitizing required maps, 4- providing a comprehensive list of all possible data and transferring them into a Geo_Database, 5- entering data into computer and 6- linking spatial and aspatial data. Although the final investigation about success of geographic information system for the industrial estate of Faraman has not yet reached enough time, the introductory surveys among managers and executive personnel of the estate indicate a new and better situation of managing the estate when they use GIS. The success of this experience can be shared with other industrial estates of Kermanshah province and even other estates in elsewhere of Iran.
