Urbanization is one of the basic challenges that the world society is facing in the 21st century. Nowadays, the irregular growth pattern of cities and irregular urban development have destructive effects on cities and their surrounding environment. In the meantime, the city of Bonab is not an exception to this rule. In this descriptive-analytical research with applied purpose, using the fuzzy method and remote sensing, the physical expansion and growth of Bonab city has been evaluated. In order to analyze the effective factors in the pattern of development and physical growth of the studied area, first, 10 related and main criteria including: slope, direction of slope, height, type of vegetation, distance from faults, distance from waterways, distance from communication network, distance from rivers, distance from rural settlements and distance from susceptible lands were referenced using the geographic information system were placed in the numerical range of zero to one. Then, the specified layers were fuzzy and membered by different functions, and lastly, the final map was prepared using fuzzy criteria and fuzzy gamma. In relation to the modified fuzzy gamma model, values of 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 have been used to identify potential areas for the physical expansion of Bonab city. The analysis and evaluation of the accuracy of the model was done based on gamma layers and a number of raster layers, as a result the gamma 0.9 was introduced as the final layer of land suitability for the future expansion. Based on the final map obtained, it can be said that the favorable areas for the future expansion of Bonab city are mostly located in the north and northwest areas.

One aspect of the sustainability of urban development is balanced physical development in line with environmental, ecological, and socio-economic conditions. In the last decades of the twentieth century, despite many efforts in the field of sustainable physical-spatial development of cities, this issue still remains one of the major challenges for geographers, urban planners, architects and urban planners. In many developing countries, accelerated urbanization and increasing urban populations have exacerbated environmental hazards. This is doubly important in small towns. Physical development, in addition to changing land use, has severely limited the basic needs of urban society, including the provision of safe and adequate water, per capita green space, urban waste management and environmental pollution. The aim of this study is to analyze the role of physical development on the instability of urban development from an environmental perspective in the city of Sorkhrud, using a descriptive-analytical method. To do this, first the physical development of the city using the Shannon entropy model was examined and then the role of physical development on environmental problems was evaluated through three components and seven criteria. The three components include; physical, functional and environmental, and the seven criteria were observance of standard land uses, urban furniture, observance of building height, urban green space, maintaining soil balance, land use change of agricultural land. The results suggest that unbalanced physical development has led to unorganized environmental instability in the city, such as land use change and increased environmental pollution. Green space development is the best option for moderating unbalanced physical development.

Home is the origin and destination of life for human being. People leave their homes for work and social activities, and then they return to home as soon as they finish their works. But, the man's house is in a residential block behind some of the same-sized windows quiet identical, nowadays. Due to its similarity tothe other houses, such a home is difficult to identify not only for guests but also for family members from outside. The sense of belonging is an emotional and meaningful relationship between the person and the place. Such emotional relationship would persuade people to return to home as a valuable resting place. In fact, the sense of belonging is an indicator by which one can measure the degree to which people are distinct from other places. The present study is a descriptive-analytical-applicable research that investigates the effect of physical factors of residential complexes on increasing the sense of belonging to one's place of residence based on a field study. The sample includes residents of Shahbaloot and Pardisan complexes in Gorgan city. Using Cochran formula, 262 persons were selected as the statistical sample. SPSS software was used for data analysis.Research findings show that "dimensions and size" and "spatial relationships and arrangement" had the greatest impact on the sense of belonging.

There has recently occurred a massive change of land use in rural settlements in the hinterland of cities. The expansion of urbanization has induced considerable changes in rural settlements with some physical, social, economic and environmental consequences. One of the most important consequences of land use change is the conversion of agricultural land into residential applications, which has reduced the production capacity of rural settlements. The present study was carried out in Qarchak county and 4 villages were selected as the case study. Of total population of the study area, 240 cases were selected as the sample. The research method drew on both quantitative and qualitative approaches and the data was collected using documentary and field surveys. Also, the relationship between items was evaluated using factor analysis method. According to the findings, the measurement indices of each scale used at a confidence interval of 5% had a t-value of more than 1.96, indicating a significant correlation between research items. The mean villagers' views about the effect of land use change were as follows: environmental dimension (3.61), physical dimension (3.99), social dimension (3.421) and economic dimension (58.3) all obtained at a significant level of 0.0001. The estimated t-value (246.11) was larger than the critical value of 1.96, which confirmed the relationship between test items. Therefore, it can be concluded that expanded residential use, due to population absorption and its associated social impacts such as social differences and economic consequences like increased intermediary businesses and land deals have induced environmental impacts in terms of reduced green space and agricultural lands.

Strategic assessment is a method for improving the processes of decision making, policy, and planning. Land use suitability evaluation is a method for strategic assessment of environment. Based on its intrinsic logic, land use suitability assessment method has proper capabilities for strategic assessment. The method tries to shed a light on the issue of how close are the implemented planning projects to the strategic goals. The present study applies Land use Suitability Index (LSI) at district one of Tehran to achieve the following goals: the extent to which a program has influenced the improvement of the present status, and if the method is able to find the proper answers for existing problems and questions. The findings of the present study showed that the applied method is suitable to find the proper answers. It also showed that implementing the proposed method in district one of Tehran has led to relative improvement of the proposed program. It means that improvement has been achieved by decreasing the land use incompatibility and increasing the relative land use compatibility. The results also indicated that if enough attention is paid to some critical parts, even more improvement will be achieved and there would be greater possibility for higher levels of urban development.
